"The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men."
-Bill Beattie
What to expect in math class.
This year I plan on having a rigorous schedule with lots of math content and a few large projects to demonstrate months of learning. My main academic goal is to prepare the seniors for college level math courses. To do this, I have prepared a common curricula that includes the math that each student needs to succeed in college. On top of this base curricula, we will also be studying statistics and some economics. This will be a fun, intensive, train ride on the math express, but I will be right there with the students at every station.
About My Teaching Style
I believe first, and foremost, in flexibility. Each class and each student responds to different teaching styles in different ways. It is the primary purpose of the teacher to find what methods are most effective for each student. To be always searching for the best way to teach is my main goal. I also believe in what I call the "fourth factor." Many educators stress the importance of the trifecta of teaching: student, parent, and teacher. These three working together for a common goal is a powerful combination; however, I believe that peer tutoring/support is the fourth element in education that can help students be successful. I like to give students the opportunity to lean on and learn from each other.
